CAPMAS estimated that Egypt's labour force in Q3 increased to 32.218 million people, up from 31.423 million in Q2, reflecting a 2.5 percent increase.
The report said the labour force in urban areas reached 14.190 million, compared to 18.028 million in rural areas.
This workforce consisted of 26.432 million males and 5.786 million females.
The total number of unemployed individuals was 2.159 million, making up 6.7 percent of the entire workforce.
Employed vs unemployed
CAPMAS indicated that the number of employed individuals rose to 30.059 million in Q3 of 2024, up from 29.365 million in Q2, marking a 2.4 percent increase.
The employed population totalled 12.752 million in urban areas, while they amounted to 17.307 million in rural areas.
Unemployment was significantly higher among women, recording 18.2 percent, compared to men at 4.2 percent.
The report also noted that youth unemployment, especially among those aged 15-29, accounted for 67.2 percent of the total unemployed population.
Education level
Among the unemployed individuals, 84.5 percent were intermediate, post-secondary, or higher education holders, showing a slight increase from 84.1 percent in Q2.
Of those who hold university degrees or higher, 44.6 percent were unemployed, a slight decrease from 44.8 percent in Q2 and 44.0 percent in the same period of 2023.
