The 5,200 MW capacity includes 3,100 MW from wind energy and 2,100 MW from solar energy.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat also attended the signing ceremony.
These MoUs are a key part of Egypt’s Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy, which aims to increase the renewable energy share in the national energy mix to more than 42 percent by 2030 and over 60 percent by 2040.
This strategy aligns with global advancements in renewable energy technologies, energy storage solutions, and the growing emphasis on green hydrogen.
It also aligns with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy's plan to add 30 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy to the national grid.
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), and Alcazar Energy signed the first MoU to begin studies and measurements for a wind power project with a total capacity of 2 GW.
This MoU was signed by EETC Chairwoman Mona Rizk, Executive Chairman of NREA Mohamed El-Khayat, and Co-Founder & Managing Partner at Alcazar Energy Partners Daniel Calderon.
The project will advance Egypt’s Vision 2030 for renewable energy and environmental sustainability. It will generate up to 12,500 construction jobs and 1,170 permanent operation jobs.
Moreover, it will generate enough clean electricity to power more than 1.3 million homes, directly supporting Egypt’s renewable energy goals and boosting its sustainable power generation capacity.
"This partnership with EETC and NREA highlights our mutual commitment to supporting Egypt's energy transition through large-scale, sustainable infrastructure projects," Calderon stated.
Meanwhile, the second MoU was signed with the Voltalia and TAQA Arabia alliance to begin studies and measurements for a 1.1 GW wind power project and a 2.1 GW solar power project.
These projects mark Egypt's first to integrate solar and wind energy sources.
This MoU was signed by Rizk, El-Khayat, Country Managing Director of Voltalia (Egypt & Jordan) Karim El-Azzawy, and CEO of TAQA Arabia Pakinam Kafafi.
During the signing, Minister Esmat emphasized efforts to enhance and develop various services in the electricity sector, including generation, transmission, distribution, and the efficient use of renewable energy resources.
In related news, Egypt inked two agreements for a 200 MW wind farm in the Gulf of Suez area in August.
In February, the country also signed seven MoUs related to green hydrogen and renewable energy.
