Three people killed, five injured in Red Sea collision

Three people, including a Swiss tourist, were killed and five others injured in a collision between a tourist bus and a pickup truck near the Egyptian Red Sea city of Marsa Alam.

The accident occurred at kilometre 50 on the Quseir-Marsa Alam Road.

Seven ambulances were dispatched to the scene, transporting the victims to Quseir and Port Ghalib hospitals.

The accident resulted in the deaths of the drivers of the bus and the semi-truck, as well as a Swiss tourist. The bodies were transferred to Quseir Central Hospital.

The public prosecution initiated an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.

Egypt recorded 5,861 road accident fatalities in 2023, a decrease from 7,762 in 2022, according to a recent report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

However, according to the report, the number of injuries rose from 55,991 to 71,016 during the same period.
