Liverpool's Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah called on Egyptian fans to refrain from comparing Eintracht Frankfurt's goal-scoring sensation Omar Marmoush to himself. He said too much pressure on his Egypt international teammate was unwarranted.

Speaking at the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair, Salah, 32, highlighted Marmoush's journey in Europe, emphasising the challenges he has overcome to achieve his exceptional performances.

Marmoush, 25, has been a standout performer this season, scoring 11 goals and seven assists in the first 10 league matches.

Playing next to Salah for the Pharaohs since 2021, Marmoush scored six goals in 34 appearances.

"Marmoush is a talented player who plays a crucial role for his team and the Egyptian national squad," Salah said, emphasising the need to support Marmoush without drawing comparisons to established players like himself.

He stressed the importance of allowing Marmoush to carve out his own path in football. Recent chants from Egyptian fans comparing Marmoush to Salah as the 'New Mo' have prompted Salah to address the issue.

"Stop comparing Omar Marmoush to me. Such comparisons only add unnecessary pressure, especially considering his early career stage," Salah said during a seminar at the Sharjah International Book Fair.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has become a household name among millions of Egyptian and Arab fans. He shattered several scoring records and helped the Reds win several major titles, including the European Champions League title in 2019 and the English Premier League title in 2020.

The Egypt skipper has scored 57 goals in 101 appearances over 12 years for the Pharaohs.

Salah urged fans to let Marmoush enjoy his unique journey without the burden of unrealistic expectations, insisting that constant comparisons hinder rather than help Marmoush's development.

"Let's support Marmoush in his distinctive journey without the weight of comparisons. Each player's path is different, and we should allow him the space to grow and excel in his own right," Salah concluded.
