The ministry explained in an official statement that the video shows the removal of non-archaeological construction materials, which were added decades ago to conceal the pyramid’s electrical lighting network that illuminates the monument at night.
The Supreme Council of Antiquities is currently removing these materials as part of its project to modernize the lighting system of the Great Pyramid of Giza, the statement indicated.
"The work is being carried out meticulously to ensure that neither the pyramid nor its original stones are affected in any way," the ministry affirmed.
Furthermore, it emphasized its commitment to preserving and maintaining Egypt’s rich cultural and archaeological heritage.
The tourism ministry also urged social media users to exercise caution and verify information before sharing any content that might lead to unnecessary public concern.
The ministerial response followed a viral video on social media that seemed to show demolition work on one of the stones of the Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu, causing public concern and speculation about potential damage to the ancient structure.
