The two sides signed the agreements at the cabinet headquarters in the New Administrative Capital in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry & Advanced Technology.
The signing ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, and other relevant ministers from both countries.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized that these agreements significantly advance Egypt’s Sustainable Energy Strategy for 2035.
Energy storage
The Egyptian Ministry of Industry, represented by the Industrial Modernization Centre, signed an MoU with two Emirati companies, Global South Utilities and Enercap, to establish an energy storage battery manufacturing plant.
Furthermore, the centre signed two other memorandums with UAE's Global South Utilities and China's JA Solar to establish a factory for manufacturing 2-gigawatts solar cells and another for producing solar panels with the same capacity.
According to Madbouly, these projects would provide storage solutions for the growing energy demand in local and regional markets and strengthen energy security.
Renewable sources
Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, represented by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, signed two agreements with a consortium of companies —UAE’s Masdar, Infinity, and Hassan Allam corporation—for 1.2 gigawatts solar energy projects under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model.
Madbouly noted that these projects also use battery technology to store 720 megawatts of energy. He highlighted that these agreements constitute part of Egypt’s strategy to achieve an integrated and sustainable energy future.
Egypt’s renewable energy strategy aims to increase renewable energy’s share in the national energy mix to more than 42 percent by 2030 and 60 percent by 2040.
Floating solar power
Madbouly also witnessed the signing of two MoUs between the Future Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority and UAE's Masdar Company to develop a 5-gigawatt floating solar power plant in Lake Nasser and a 2.8-gigawatt solar project in Nagaa Hammadi.
The project is expected to be the largest of its kind globally.
Suez Canal Economic Zone
Similarly, the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Authority and Abu Dhabi Ports Company signed an agreement to develop, operate, and manage an integrated industrial zone in the SCZONE’s East Port Said Industrial Zone.
According to the Egyptian cabinet, the 20-square-kilometre industrial zone will focus on renewable energy and technological industries and will operate under usufruct rights. It will also be linked to piers, storage areas, and logistics zones within the East Port Said Port.
