Abu Obeida, the spokesperson of Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, stated that news of the woman's death was confirmed after contact had been restored with the woman's captors following a breakdown in communication for several weeks.
Since early October, Israeli airstrikes have levelled tens of residential buildings in various towns and refugee camps in northern Gaza, killing hundreds of civilians and wounding hundreds more as the army pushes forward with attempts to cleanse the area ethnically.
Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip has killed tens of Israelis and others who were taken captive by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups on 7 October 2023, according to various reports.
“The enemy must prepare to deal with the disappearance of the bodies of its dead prisoners due to the widespread destruction,” Abu Obeida said.
“War criminal Netanyahu, his government and army leaders insist on causing suffering and killing of their prisoners and must bear full responsibility for the lives of their prisoners.”
“After contact was restored with those charged with protecting prisoners, it became clear that one of the enemy's female prisoners was killed in an area subjected to aggression in northern Gaza.”
He added that another female Israeli captive in the same area faces imminent danger due to the ongoing Israeli bombardment.
An estimated 50-100 Israeli captives are believed to remain alive in captivity in the strip.
Despite multiple mediation efforts and pleas from the families of Israeli captives, the Israeli government, led by Netanyahu, has refused to agree to a ceasefire/prisoner swap deal with Hamas, opting to forge ahead with its genocidal war on the strip.
