In a statement on Sunday, the Public Prosecution said the decision followed the investigations it ordered.

In these investigations, security agencies assessed the status of those listed and found that 716 individuals had ceased their involvement in terrorist actions.

The prosecution added that the individuals remaining on the lists are being reviewed, and plans are in place to remove others who have similarly ended their involvement in such acts.

The Public Prosecution has not revealed any of the names of those 716 removed from the lists.

Egypt’s efforts in fighting terrorism

In 2015, Egypt signed the Terrorist Entities Law, providing a broad definition of "terrorist entities." It defined them as groups or organizations that, through any means inside or outside the country, aim to disable laws, prevent state institutions or public authorities from functioning, attack citizens' personal liberties or their legal and constitutional rights, or harm national unity and social peace.

Under this legislation, prosecutors kept lists of designated terrorist entities and individuals based on court verdicts. Those listed face travel bans, asset freezes, passport cancellations, and restrictions on holding state or judicial positions.

In 2020, the cabinet amended the law on terrorist lists, broadening the definition of terrorist activity and freezing "funds," including financial assets, natural resources, properties, stocks, and currencies, used to support or finance terrorism.
