Dutch rower Rob van der Aar.
The week-long expedition is part of the "Rowing for Egypt 2024” project, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ Tourism Promotion Authority.
The project highlights the beauty of Egypt’s natural and cultural heritage, promotes its diverse tourist and archaeological attractions, and raises awareness about preserving the Nile River.
Amr El-Kady, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, emphasized that the authority sponsors the rowing expedition in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cairo, the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, Aspire Company, and several ministries.
In addition, El-Kady said the event reflects Egypt’s commitment to working with foreign embassies to showcase Egypt’s tourist destinations and promote its diverse tourism products. Such events, he noted, appeal to audiences interested in sports tourism in general and adventure tourism in particular.
Since 2023, the Ministries of Transport and Tourism have collaborated on plans to enhance Nile tourism. These plans include doubling the capacity of floating hotels, upgrading docks, and diversifying tourist offerings.
