Liverpool's Egyptian star winger Mohamed Salah said departing the Premier League club next summer is a strong possibility, expressing his disappointment at not having received a formal renewal offer from the club yet.

Salah's future with the Reds remains uncertain. His current contract expires at the end of the current season, and the player himself is sparking more speculation about his next destination.

“We are almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in,” Salah was quoted as saying by The Athletic after scoring a double in Sunday’s 3-2 win at Southampton.

Since joining Liverpool from Italy’s AS Roma in 2017, the 32-year-old Salah quickly established himself as a key star for the club, scoring 223 goals in 367 games in all competitions.

Salah admitted that Liverpool is a unique club, hailing his outstanding relationship with the club fans. However, he believes that remaining there is out of his hands.

“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end, it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December, and I haven’t received anything yet about my future,” the former Chelsea player said.

“I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end, it is not in my or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see,” he added.

Disappointed but still eager for success

Salah has guided Liverpool to many titles, including the Premier League in the 2019/2020 season, the UEFA Champions League in 2018/2019, the FA Cup in 2021/2022, and the UEFA Super Cup in 2019.

Despite his disappointment regarding the current situation, Salah is still eager to win more titles with the club this season.

When asked if he was disappointed at not receiving an offer from the club at this season stage, he said: “Of course, yeah. I’m not going to retire soon, so I’m just playing, focusing on the season, and trying to win the Premier League and, hopefully, the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed, but we will see.”

No talks about Saudi offer

During the past two seasons, Salah has been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. In 2023, Liverpool turned down a lucrative £150 million bid from Saudi giants Al-Ittihad.

Salah refused to say if the Saudi Pro League could be his next destination, insisting he fully concentrated on the club.

“I don’t want to speak about that. I am focused on the team now,” the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner said.

Salah has delivered outstanding performances with Liverpool since the start of the season, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances in different competitions. According to him, continuing to play at the top level is his priority.

“I’m very professional. Everybody can see my work ethic,” the former Basel player declared.

“I’m just trying to enjoy my football, and I will play at the top level for as long as possible. I’m just doing my best because this is who I am, and I try to give it all to myself and the club. We will see what happens next,” he concluded.

After playing 12 games so far, Liverpool currently lead the Premier League table with 31 points, eight points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
