Abdelatty's remarks came during his participation in a dialogue session titled "Dialogue for Peace" on the sidelines of the 10th edition of the Rome MED-Mediterranean Dialogues conference in Italy.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty further stressed the need to address the root causes of instability in the Middle East, stressing the necessity to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
He reviewed Egypt's mediation efforts with regional and international partners to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, reiterating Cairo's firm rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians from their land.
Additionally, the Egyptian FM also highlighted the catastrophic conditions endured by Gaza's residents due to Israeli aggression, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and policy of starvation.
Regarding the future of Gaza, Abdelatty emphasized the need to empower the Palestinian Authority to restore its role in the strip, particularly on the humanitarian level, warning against any attempts to separate Gaza from the Palestinian territories.
Lebanese crisis
The Egyptian FM also outlined Cairo's supportive stance towards Lebanon on political and humanitarian levels, emphasizing respect for the Lebanese people's right to choose their president without foreign interference.
Furthermore, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's categorical rejection of any transgression to Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, outlining Cairo's efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon.
He also addressed developments in the Red Sea, stressing the need to adopt a comprehensive approach that includes ending the war in Gaza and pointing out the economic repercussions on Egypt due to tensions in the Red Sea.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty also participated in the 23rd extraordinary session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council, held virtually, which addressed AU's membership in the G20 group.
He also held separate meetings with several high-level officials, including Qu Dongyu, director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
In addition, the Egyptian FM held bilateral discussions with Lebanese FM Abdallah Bou Habib, French FM Jean-Noël Barrot, Ukrainian FM Andrii Sybiha, and North Macedonian FM Timčo Mucunski.
Earlier Monday, Abdelatty arrived in Italy to attend the three-day conference, which serves as a high-level platform for northern and southern Mediterranean countries to address shared challenges and various crises.
