Abdelatty's remarks came during his participation at the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting in the Italian city of Fiuggi, where they addressed developments in Gaza, and Lebanon, and ways to halt the escalation in the Middle East.
According to a statement by the foreign ministry, Abdelatty underscored that such policies imperil the chances of establishing an independent Palestinian state based on international references and the two-state solution.
He cited Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza and its blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law over the past year, which have led to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
Abdelatty also condemned the Israeli policies aimed at displacing Palestinians, stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip without Israeli obstruction.
Additionally, he reaffirmed Egypt's complete rejection of any attempts to undermine the work of UN agencies, especially the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), affirming its vital role in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Lebanon Sovereignty
During the meeting, Abdelatty also addressed the recent developments in Lebanon, stressing the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, the cessation of Israel's violations of Lebanese sovereignty, and implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
He also emphasised the need to empower Lebanese institutions, especially the Lebanese army, condemning Israel's targeting of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), describing it as a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
Sudan Quartet Meeting
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty also participated in the Quartet meeting on Sudan, where he affirmed Egypt's keenness to achieve stability in Sudan, enabling the Sudanese people to achieve their aspirations.
He also reiterated the necessity of preserving the Sudanese national institutions and respecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasising the need for donor states to implement their pledges regarding the humanitarian response for Sudan, which faces a deficit of nearly 75 percent of its needs.
"It is unfair to leave neighbouring countries to bear alone the greatest burden of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan," Abdelatty said during the meeting.
He further emphasised the importance of focusing on two main goals; reaching a ceasefire and enhancing humanitarian aid access, expressing his concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan.
The Egyptian FM referred to the internal displacement of more than 11 million Sudanese citizens, which has driven more than 3 million Sudanese refugees into neighbouring countries, with Egypt receiving the largest share.
Moreover, he outlined Cairo's efforts to address the Sudanese crisis at the political and humanitarian levels, highlighting the facilitations provided by Egypt to UN agencies and relief organisations to swiftly deliver humanitarian aid to Sudan.
Abdelatty also shed light on Egypt's hosting of the Sudanese Political and Civil Forces Conference in July 2024 to help reach a Sudanese consensus without excluding any parties.
Bilateral Meetings
During his participation at the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting, Abelatty met the American, Canadian, German, Italian and Japanese counterparts, along with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
During the meetings, the Egyptian FM reviewed Cairo's efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, highlighting the upcoming ministerial conference in Cairo on 2 December to enhance the humanitarian response in Gaza.
He also emphasised the importance of the international community assuming its role in halting Israeli violations and providing the necessary humanitarian support to the Palestinian people to alleviate their suffering.
Abdelatty arrived in Italy earlier Monday to attend the 10th edition of the three-day Rome MED-Mediterranean Dialogues conference.
