Hossam Shawky, head of Desert Research Centre, said Egypt's date exports remain relatively low, with only 50,000 tons exported annually, according to the cabinet statement.

"The state is intensifying efforts to develop its date palm sector to meet domestic and international market demands," he added.

He explained that the government has adopted an initiative to support thousands of date palm farmers and enhance the marketing capabilities of the date palm industry with an eye on expanding its share in the global market.

The initiative plays a crucial role in rural development and supports thousands of farmers.

It also aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy for agricultural innovation and sustainability.

Earlier this month, the Food Export Council announced that Egypt's food industry exports have increased since January, reaching $4.6 billion, up from $3.9 billion in 2023, reflecting an 18 percent growth.

Egypt’s most important commodities include soft drink concentrates, flour and starch, and frozen strawberries.
