"A Hamas delegation will go to Cairo tomorrow for several meetings with Egyptian officials to discuss ideas for a ceasefire and a prisoner accord in the Gaza Strip," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the topic.
The announcement came two days after a ceasefire went into effect between Israel and Hezbollah, a Hamas ally.
There has been no confirmation from Cairo as of yet.
Egypt and Qatar have aspired to build on the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire for comprehensive regional stability.
The visit also comes days after the US announced a new diplomatic effort with Qatar, Turkey and Egypt to revive talks for a Gaza hostage release and ceasefire deal in the wake of the Israel- Hezbollah deal.
Egypt and Qatar, along with the US, have mediated indirect talks between Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire/prisoner swap deal to end the Israeli war that devastated Gaza.
However, these efforts were repeatedly thwarted by the obstinacy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who opted to escalate the aggression against the strip.
Israel persists in its aggressive actions against civilians in Palestinian territories, including those seeking refuge in shelters.
The Israeli genocidal war on Gaza has so far claimed the lives of at least 44,363 people and injured more than 105,070 others.
It has also devastated most of the region's infrastructure and severely restricted access to essential aid and life-saving supplies.
Egypt will host a conference on Monday to mobilise humanitarian aid for the war-ravaged Gaza Strip with the participation of global parties, including all United Nations agencies like UNRWA.
