Foreign Minister Abdelatty meeting with Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Amina Mohammed
Abdelatty made his remarks during a meeting on Monday with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed on the sidelines of the Cairo Ministerial Conference to the Enhance Humanitarian Response in Gaza.
During the meeting, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of the international community's support for ongoing efforts to ensure humanitarian aid delivery to the Gaza Strip, commending the UN's role and the secretary-general's efforts over the past months.
The foreign minister also highlighted Egypt’s continuous efforts to achieve a ceasefire and its pivotal role in facilitating aid delivery to Gaza.
He further reaffirmed the country's commitment to cooperating with the UN to ensure Palestinians full access to humanitarian aid.
Additionally, FM Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any Israeli military presence on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphi Corridor, as well as the obstruction of humanitarian aid flow.
Moreover, he expressed Egypt's support for UNRWA and its rejection of recent Israeli decisions to halt its activities in the Palestinian territories. The top diplomate also called on the UN to continue supporting UNRWA's commissioner-general and reject any proposals to replace the agency's role.
The conference, "A Year of Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza: Urgent Needs and Sustainable Solutions,” aims to mobilize global and regional support for Gaza's humanitarian crisis and address its political, security, and humanitarian challenges.
Several foreign ministers and UN representatives from around the world are attending the conference.
