Egypt, Jordan sign MoU to leverage gas infrastructure at lower costs

Egypt and Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to leverage Egypt's gas infrastructure while enabling Jordan to access floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) in Egypt for the next two years, according to a statement released by Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

This signing ceremony was held in Cairo in the presence of Karim Badawi, the Egyptian minister of petroleum and mineral resources, and Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, the minister of energy and mineral resources of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Sufian Bataineh, director general of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), and Yassin Mohamed, chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), were among the attendees.  

Badawi highlighted that this agreement reflects the ongoing commitment of both brotherly countries to continuous integration in the natural gas sector.

"This partnership seeks to secure supply and deliver mutual benefits by optimizing infrastructure usage, which forms the foundation of this collaboration and integration, benefiting both nations," Badawi stated.

In related news, Egypt and Jordan signed two new agreements to boost gas exports, facilitate LNG storage and regasification, and increase natural gas supply to Jordan’s industrial sector, strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector in 2023.
