Oriental Hall
Sat 7, 6-8pm: "Women's Fashions in Mamluk Cairo" talk by Doris Behrens-Abouseif, Emeritus Professor, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), is illustrated with images from artefacts, manuscripts and European drawings and paintings.
Tues 10, 6pm -7.30pm: “Melancholy of the Oppressed” a thought-provoking public lecture by Nouri Gana, the author of Melancholy Acts: Defeat and Cultural Critique in the Arab World (Fordham University Press, 2023) and Professor, Department of Comparative Literature, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The book examines how cultural expressions in the Arab world grapple with themes of loss, defeat, and resistance, offering a profound critique of societal struggles.
