Marking the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi emphasized Tuesday that Egypt "will continue to support and empower them as the nation rises with the efforts of all its children."

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attended the 5th edition of the “Differently-Abled” Celebration.

"I extend my heartfelt gratitude to their families for the unwavering support and belief they have in their children's extraordinary abilities, a source of pride for us," said El-Sisi.

"Our children with disabilities are a blessing to the nation from Allah the Almighty,” he continued.

The IDPD is a UN observance held annually on 3 December to promote the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities at all levels of society and development.

It aims to raise awareness of their conditions in the political, social, economic, and cultural aspects of life.

In recent years, Egypt has introduced several initiatives to protect and improve the lives of persons with disabilities, including accessibility improvements, anti-bullying laws, and specialised training programs to support their integration into society and the labour market.

In 2018, Egypt issued the Persons with Disabilities Rights law.

The law aims to integrate challenged people into society, mandating a minimum 5 percent employment quota for challenged people in both the public and private sectors.

In 2021, Egypt established the Kaderoun Bekhtelaf (Differently Abled) Fund, to support the country's roughly 11 million citizens with disabilities.

In February, El-Sisi allocated EGP 10 billion to the Fund.

In November, the Egyptian Parliament approved an agreement with Italy to provide a €1.8 million grant to enhance the rights of people with disabilities in Egypt.
