The institute indicated that it received reports from Egyptian citizens feeling the tremor. However, no reports of casualties or property damage have been received.

The earthquake is the second to be felt in Egypt within a week. On Friday, NRIAG also reported that an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit northwest Cyprus and was felt in Egypt. It occurred approximately 710 kilometres from Cairo.

The most devastating earthquake in Egypt's history occurred in 1992, registering a magnitude of 5.8.

This catastrophic event caused the tragic loss of 541 lives and left nearly 6,500 people injured in Greater Cairo.
