This came shortly following a phone call between Abdelatty and his Syrian counterpart, Bassam Sabbagh, in which they discussed strategies to strengthen Arab support for the Syrian state amidst the ongoing conflicts.
In his discussions with Lavrov, FM Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's unwavering and robust support for Syria and its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Egypt's top diplomat also emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians.
A statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs read that both ministers agreed on the importance of maintaining continuous and effective coordination between their countries.
According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty and Lavrov also expressed grave concern over the significant escalation of the conflict in Syria, stressing the need to prevent terrorism from spreading and destabilizing the entire region.
Since 2015, Russia has been a key ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. In response to a recent offensive in northern Syria, Moscow has intensified air strikes on rebel targets and expressed strong support for Syria's efforts against terrorist groups.
Sudan and Gaza
The Egyptian foreign minister and his Russian counterpart exchanged views on other Middle East issues, particularly Sudan's developments.
Furthermore, Abdelatty and Lavrov addressed the Israeli aggression in Gaza, agreeing on the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional delivery of humanitarian aid.
