Abdelatty's remarks came during a phone call with Kaja Kallas, the European Union (EU) high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, during which they discussed the successive developments in the Middle East.
During the call, the Egyptian FM stressed Cairo's unwavering and supportive position for the Syrian state, stressing the importance of respecting its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
He also underscored the necessity of intensifying regional and international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure humanitarian aid access to the besieged strip.
Abdelatty reviewed with the EU top diplomat the proceedings of the recently held Cairo Ministerial Conference on Enhancing the Humanitarian Response in Gaza.
African crises
Addressing the developments in the Horn of Africa, the Egyptian FM stressed Cairo's position towards respecting Somali sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity and supporting its national institutions to eliminate terrorism.
He also outlined the outcomes of his recent visit to Sudan, where he affirmed Egypt's stance in supporting Sudanese institutions and the necessity of respecting the unity and integrity of Sudanese territories.
Additionally, Abdelatty highlighted Cairo’s efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Sudan and empower regional and international humanitarian organisations to carry out their tasks amid the dire humanitarian situation.
During the call, the Egyptian top diplomat also addressed the water security issue, affirming that it is an existential issue for Egypt that will not be compromised.
Egypt-EU relations
Abdelatty praised the distinguished relations between Egypt and the EU after signing the joint political declaration document to upgrade ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
He affirmed his keenness to promote all aspects of economic, political, and scientific cooperation between both sides within the framework of this partnership.
Furthermore, the Egyptian FM looked forward to building on the momentum witnessed in Egypt-EU relations and to close coordination on regional and international issues of common interest.
Abdelatty also addressed the EU financing package for Egypt in terms of the swift disbursement of the first tranche and intensifying communication for the European Parliament to approve the second tranche amounting to four billion euros.
