Cairo refutes Wall Street Journal report on 'urging al-Assad to leave Syria' as 'entirely baseless'

Egypt categorically denied claims by The Wall Street Journal that Egyptian officials urged Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to leave the country.

Egypt affirmed in a statement by the Foreign Ministry that such a report is baseless and devoid of truth, calling on all media outlets to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of their published information.

Jordan has also denied The Wall Street Journal's claims.

Egypt has consistently supported Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Cairo has also supported implementing United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2254, which draws a political roadmap for Syria, including drafting a new constitution and holding elections.
