Egypt undertook decade of reforms despite challenges: PM Madbouly at Doha Forum

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Sunday that Egypt has implemented comprehensive reform measures since 2014 despite navigating a challenging regional environment and managing a 25 million-person population growth during this time.

Madbouly's remarks came during his participation in the 22nd edition of the Doha Forum on behalf of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. The forum runs from 7 to 8 December in Qatar and is themed "The Innovation Imperative."

According to the Egyptian cabinet, Madbouly noted that these reforms were designed to streamline laws and procedures, create a more investor-friendly climate, improve the governance of subsidies, and reduce the unemployment rate.

He further addressed the State Ownership Policy Document and the ongoing economic reform efforts to enhance the private sector's contribution to the national economy.

Madbouly highlighted that despite the challenges, the country succeeded in advancing economic reforms, achieving positive growth rates, and increasing job opportunities.

Meeting the Emir of Qatar
 

According to the Egyptian cabinet, the premier met with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Madbouly conveyed President El-Sisi's greetings and expressed his genuine desire to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and Qatar in various fields.

He emphasised building on the recent significant advancements in Egyptian-Qatari political, economic, and investment relations.

For his part, the Qatari Emir underlined the importance of cooperation between Egypt and Qatar and the necessity of uniting efforts to address current regional challenges, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining continuous communication with Cairo.

He also praised Egypt's influential and pivotal role at the regional and international levels, particularly amidst current developments in the Middle East.

Meeting Qatari PM
 

Madbouly also met with his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. He reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to fostering Qatari investments in key areas of the country. 

The Egyptian cabinet said Madbouly further noted the shared vision of the political leaderships of both nations to expand collaborative frameworks.

The Egyptian PM looked forward to implementing the ideas and proposals discussed during the meeting, pointing out many promising investment opportunities in Egypt that could benefit from collaboration with Qatar.

Meanwhile, the Qatari PM emphasised the strong ties between both nations, expressing his country's keenness to expand bilateral cooperation and increase joint investments for mutual benefit.

Qatari Businessmen
 

Madbouly met with delegations from the Qatari Businessmen Association and the Qatari Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Doha Forum featured a broad international participation, bringing together global leaders, policymakers, experts, and heads of regional, international, and United Nations organisations.

The event aimed to address pressing global challenges and develop innovative and cooperative strategies and policies to promote peace, security, sustainability, and prosperity for a better future.
