In Photos: Egyptian Naval Forces foil drug smuggling attempts in Mediterranean & Red Sea

The Egyptian Naval Forces, operating under the 3rd of July Naval Base, foiled attempts to smuggle drugs into the country in the Mediterranean and Red Sea, according to a statement released by the military spokesperson on Monday.

The military spokesperson said the naval forces intercepted a fishing boat that failed to comply while entering Egyptian territorial waters in the Mediterranean.

He explained that forces apprehended three individuals after gunfire exchange, and seized substantial amounts of various narcotics on board.

In a separate operation, the naval forces in the Red Sea foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantities of cannabis.

The Egyptian Naval Forces dispatched two units from the Red Sea base to intercept a fishing boat after receiving reports that several smugglers were involved in a narcotics smuggling scheme, according to the statement.

 Two individuals were apprehended and large quantities of cannabis on board were seized, the statement added.

All arrested individuals and confiscated contraband were handed over to the relevant authorities for prosecution.
