Houthi military spokesperson General Yahya Saree stated that the operation, the second in 10 days, involved missiles and drones and occurred as the US naval vessels were escorting the supply ships after they departed from Djibouti.
The Houthis also claimed responsibility for separate drone attacks targeting Tel Aviv’s historic Jaffa neighbourhood and the Israeli city of Ashkelon, part of their broader involvement in the ongoing regional conflict.
There has been no immediate confirmation or response from US or Israeli officials regarding these claims.
The Gulf of Aden and surrounding areas remain tense, with heightened military activity and concerns over the security of vital shipping lanes.
Earlier last month, the Houthis carried out separate attacks on US naval forces, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and two destroyers in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea.
The Pentagon confirmed those attacks, stating that US vessels crossing the Bab al-Mandab Strait were targeted with at least eight drones, five ballistic missiles, and three cruise missiles.
The rebels claim the strikes target US vessels and those linked to Israel as an act of defense for Yemen and a demonstration of solidarity with Palestinians amid the Gaza war.
