The occupation troops besieged the Khalil Awida School early Sunday morning, before storming it and directly targeting the displaced people sheltering there with gunfire and artillery shelling, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The forces detained the men at the school and forcibly displaced the women and children.

Displaced women and children were compelled to move toward a military checkpoint set up on Salah Al-Din Street, WAFA said.

Meanwhile, Palestinian media reported that 19 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes overnight targeting various areas in the Gaza Strip.

In southern Gaza, an Israeli drone killed a Palestinian in Khirbat Al-Adas, north of Rafah City.

The Israeli forces also bombed the Al-Mawasi area, which is housing displaced people west of Rafah City, with artillery and tank fire, Al Jazeera reported.

Additionally, Israeli naval vessels targeted fishing boats in the sea off the beach camp, west of Gaza City.

On Saturday, the Palestinian Civil Defence agency said Israeli strikes on Gaza killed 17 people, including seven at a UN school housing displaced people.

Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that seven people were killed, including women and children, and at least 10 wounded "when Israeli warplanes targeted the Al-Majida Wasila School west of Gaza City."

The school was run by UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, but like many such facilities, it has been turned into a makeshift shelter for those displaced by the war.

The vast majority of Gaza's population has been displaced by the war, often multiple times.

Bassal added that an Israeli strike on the town hall in Deir El-Balah in central Gaza killed Mayor Deiab Al-Jaro and nine others.

The Israeli military said it targeted Al-Jaro in a strike on "the humanitarian area in Deir El-Balah."

Since 7 October 2023, Israel's genocidal war on Gaza has killed at least 44,930 Palestinians and injured 106,624.
