Clashes flared up again in Jenin on Sunday between Jenin Brigade, part of the Al-Quds Brigades (the military wing of the Islamic Jihad group in Jenin), and the PA forces, sources told Al Jazeera.
"Children remain out of school, and camp residents are unable to access primary healthcare and other essential services", UNRWA said in a statement.
The PA's security branch said in a statement that at least one person was killed on Saturday while PA forces were undertaking an operation to restore law and order to Jenin's historic refugee camp suburb, a stronghold of Palestinian fighters alienated from the PA.
Hamas, which has been fighting Israeli forces in Gaza for more than a year, condemned the PA for the Jenin operation. The Islamic Jihad accused the PA of seeking to claim control over the camp and called for a day of protests, as reported by Reuters.
The PA operation has killed Jenin Brigade commander Yazid Jaysa, media reports said.
According to Al Jazeera, a strike has been declared across the city of Jenin and its refugee camp, and schools have switched to online education in the wake of the events.
Meanwhile, WAFA news agency cited the spokesperson for the Palestinian security forces, General Anwar Rajab, as saying: "The continuous efforts of the security agencies persist in enforcing order, upholding the rule of law, and pursuing those who violate it across all areas of the West Bank, regardless of their identities or affiliations.".
He emphasized that the"security operation will continue until all its objectives are achieved, primarily arresting wanted individuals and bringing them to justice, enforcing order and security, upholding the rule of law, and eliminating anything that disrupts citizens' daily lives".
