El-Sisi received the Jordanian king in Cairo on Monday. The two leaders held a closed session of talks, followed by an expanded session with the participation of the two countries delegations.

According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi and Abdullah stressed the importance of supporting the Syrian state and preserving its unity and territorial integrity, especially given Egypt and Jordan's membership in the Arab Liaison Committee on Syria.

On 8 December, Syrian rebels captured large swathes of the country, including the capital, Damascus, unopposed, marking the end of decades of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

Meanwhile, the talks also addressed regional conditions, including in the Palestinian territories, where both leaders stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people.

El-Sisi and Abdullah also reiterated their absolute rejection of liquidating the Palestinian cause and displacing Palestinians from their lands, the statement added.

They also reaffirmed rejection of attempts to eliminate the two-state solution or procrastinate in reaching it.

The two leaders stressed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, on the lines of 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only guarantee for achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.

They also discussed the situation in Lebanon, stressing their welcome of the ceasefire agreement and the need to implement Security Council Resolution 1701.

Furthermore, both leaders highlighted their commitment to security, sovereignty, and stability in Lebanon and condemned any aggression against the country.

They also called on all parties to take responsibility for halting the ongoing escalation in the region.
