El-Sisi discusses regional developments with Iranian President Pezeshkian on D-8 Summit sidelines

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed Thursday latest developments in the Middle East with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Summit, held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.

According to a statement by the Egyptian presidency, the two leaders exchanged views on regional developments and ways to restore peace in the Middle East.

President El-Sisi underscored the importance of defusing regional tensions and avoiding escalation. He stressed that all parties must exercise wisdom to protect the region from dangerous confrontations that could have profound implications for peace and security in the Middle East and beyond.

The discussions also addressed the situation in Palestinian territories, with Egypt’s president highlighting the country’s efforts to broker a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid. The two leaders also exchanged perspectives on the crises in Lebanon and Syria.

In addition, the meeting explored avenues for enhancing bilateral relations between Egypt and Iran in ways that serve the interests of both nations and contribute to regional stability.

President Pezeshkian is the first Iranian president to visit Egypt in 11 years.
