At a joint press conference with Syria's new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, aka Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani, in Damascus, Fidan emphasized the importance of immediate action, declaring, "This is not a time to wait and see. We must take action."

He expressed Turkey's strong stance against the PKK/YPG, which he accused of occupying Syrian lands and stealing natural resources.

"The PKK/YPG must dissolve itself as soon as possible," Fidan added, praising the Syrian people's determination in their fight against the group.

Fidan also called for the international community, especially Arab nations, to engage with Syria's new administration, highlighting that the darkest period in Syria's history is now behind and better days lie ahead. He reiterated that the Syrian people themselves should determine Syria's future.

Fidan also urged lifting sanctions on Syria, emphasizing that normalization and establishment of security are critical for the country's recovery. "The lifting of sanctions, the normalization of the country, and the establishment of security are crucial," he said.

He underscored the need for preparations to begin for Syria's reconstruction, stressing that a stable environment is essential for the safe return of Syrian refugees.

The Turkish foreign minister condemned Israel's actions in Syria. He described Israel's exploitation of the situation to seize Syrian territories as "absolutely unacceptable." Fidan urged Israel to respect Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning against further escalation of regional security.

Al-Jolani, for his part, thanked Turkey for its support throughout the revolution and discussed plans to strengthen Syria's government, particularly the defence sector, and ensure all weapons are under state control.

He affirmed that any armed groups operating outside the control of the state, including those in areas held by the PKK/YPG, will not be tolerated.
