In an interview with Asharq Bloomberg, Fathy said he expects similar growth in 2025.

He also highlighted Egypt’s need to double hotel capacity within the next five to six years to accommodate the rising number of inbound tourists.

Moreover, the minister underscored the government's focus on developing key tourist areas, particularly around the pyramids, to attract further investment.

In 2023, Egypt welcomed 14.906 million tourists, surpassing the 2010 peak of 14.731 million.

The country also saw a record 7.069 million tourists between January and June 2024, compared to 7.062 million in the same period of 2023.

Tourism revenues reached $6.6 billion in the first half of 2024, up from $6.3 billion in 2023 and $5.6 billion in 2010.

Tourism is one of Egypt’s key sources of foreign currency, along with remittances from Egyptians abroad, the Suez Canal revenues, and foreign direct investments.

The government has developed a national tourism strategy for attracting 30 million tourists by 2028 by expanding capacity and improving the tourist experience.
