The new rules will be effective on 11 January 2025.
The SCRM outlined several key regulations, including banning audience participation through live phone calls. Instead, viewer questions and comments must be pre-screened by the programme's production team, which must include a specialist in religious affairs.
This measure is intended to ensure compliance with established legal and ethical standards.
Advertising during religious programme broadcasts is also prohibited. Ads will only be allowed before or after the programme.
The duration of religious programmes is restricted to 30 minutes on general channels and radio stations, while specialized religious channels and stations may air programmes for up to 45 minutes.
Exceptions to the duration limits apply to prominent figures, including the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the Pope of Alexandria and head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Minister of Religious Endowments, and the Grand Mufti of the Republic.
According to the SCRM, these measures aim to improve the quality of religious programming and ensure that they contribute positively to societal values.
