The meeting was attended by Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy and Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber.
During the meeting, Madbouly highlighted the state’s vision for optimizing the use of all tourist areas, noting that plans are underway to redevelop Downtown Cairo following the relocation of government ministries to the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
The redevelopment plan includes converting the evacuated government buildings into luxury hotels while pedestrianizing some streets in the area to enhance its appeal.
The meeting also highlighted the proposed redevelopment of the government ministries’ buildings complex, which involves dividing the complex into six zones, each featuring distinctive architectural styles.
These zones will host several historical buildings, which will be transformed into premium hotels catering to high-end international tourists.
The discussion also focused on utilizing heritage buildings in Downtown Cairo to preserve their architectural value while adding modern facilities.
This includes creating over 15,000 square metres of open green spaces and adding around 2,600 new hotel rooms and 1,200 serviced apartments.
Maspero Triangle project
According to the Egyptian cabinet, the meeting also reviewed the progress of the Nile Towers project in the Maspero Triangle.
This ambitious development comprises three residential towers, covering an area of 4,500 square metres, with three basement levels accommodating 1,272 vehicles.
Each tower will have 30 floors, providing 774 residential units, including two luxury villas atop each, with spacious layouts exceeding 5,250 square metres per villa.
During the meeting, the Cairo governor highlighted the latest developments in the Khedival Cairo Development Project, which is part of a larger initiative to protect and revitalize Cairo’s historical heritage.
The project includes restoring iconic buildings and public spaces in Downtown Cairo, preserving its architectural identity while enhancing its functionality as a vibrant urban centre.
Investors who attended the meeting shared their perspectives on the proposed projects.
They stressed the importance of having a comprehensive master plan for the entire area, which would ensure cohesive development and the development of streets, squares, and facades in Cairo.
They also recommended establishing a distinctive identity for Downtown Cairo that would reflect the charm of historic Cairo and attract local and international visitors.
The redevelopment of Downtown Cairo marks a significant step in Egypt’s broader efforts to enhance its urban landscapes, boost tourism, and preserve its rich cultural heritage.
