The Alexandria and Beheira Governorates have announced that school classes will be suspended on Monday across all public and private schools and the Al-Azhar institutes due to the expected severe weather conditions.

The decision followed a level-four (high) warning issued by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) on Monday, which predicted moderate to heavy rainfall, with occasional thunderstorms, throughout the governorates.

The weather alert also covered neighbouring governorates, including Matrouh and Kafr El Sheikh, as well as coastal areas like Damietta, Port Said, Arish, and Rafah.

Egypt is witnessing a gradual decrease in temperatures after the winter season officially started on 21 December.

The EMA also warned that Alexandria, Beheira, and Kafr El Sheikh will experience rough sea conditions on Monday. Wind speeds will range from 40 to 60 km/h, and wave heights will be between 2.5 and 3.5 metres.

The suspension of school classes in Alexandria and Beheira Governorates aims to give local authorities time to take necessary precautions and address weather impacts.
