“Today I was officially informed by the EFA that they decided to breach my employment contract signed last October and valid until the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles,” Micale said in a press statement sent to the media.
“A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by the EFA with a request to reduce the contract due to financial difficulties. I promptly accepted to help and to substantially reduce the contract in 2025, but subsequently, the EFA requested an even much higher reduction,” he added.
There has been no official statement from the EFA yet.
The 55-year-old tactician, who won the gold medal with Brazil at the Rio 2016 Olympics, led Egypt to the semifinals of the Olympic tournament in Paris last August, their best achievement in 60 years.
He was appointed in September as head coach of the U20 team with the prospect of preparing a new generation for the Los Angeles Games.
However, a new board took over the EFA in December under the leadership of Hany Abo Rida and reportedly expressed concerns over Micale’s salary.
The financial details of the contract were not disclosed, but it was reportedly $80,000 per month with a three-month release clause.
Micale qualified the young Pharaohs for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be played in April.

“It was an honor to be ahead of the Olympic national team and to achieve the semifinals in the 2024 Games. Finally, I must send a big thank you to the Egyptian people. You are the main reason why I don’t want this to be a goodbye, but a see you soon,” he concluded.
