Insights and Outside the Box - exhibitions

Two parallel exhibitions are on display in the halls of Ubuntu Gallery.
Insights showcases the work of Sudanese painter Mutaz Elemam, while Outside the Box features the work of Swedish cartoonist and animator Saad Hajo.

The Emir from Poland - exhibition
Running until 17 January
Museum of Islamic Art, Port Said Street, Cairo
The exhibition celebrates the work of Wacław Seweryn Rzewuski (1784-1831), a legendary Polish traveller who blended together two archetypes: that of a Bedouin emir and that of a knight fighting for his homeland's independence.
Rzewuski contributed spectacularly to our knowledge about the traditions cultivated for centuries in the Middle East and the Arabian Peninsula.
On his travels in the region, he documented the life and culture of the desert-dwelling Bedouins.

Cairo Art Fair WEST - exhibition

This milestone edition brings together over 160 of Egypt’s most celebrated and promising artists, showcasing works that speak of the scale and significance of the local creative scene.

The display is a unique immersion in diverse styles, genres, and price ranges.

Altered Landscapes - exhibition

Tintera Gallery, 17 Bahgat Aly Street, Zamalek, Cairo
The Cairo-based Dutch photographer René Clement has already held several exhibitions, including two in Tintera alone.
This time, he returns with two new series: Fractals Arabesque (2021–2024) and White Desert – Black Nights (2019–2024). These highlight the artist's evolving approach to capturing the essence of nature and time.

New films across cinemas
Wednesday, 1 January, brings several new films to movie theatres across Egypt:
- Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo, starring Rakeen Saad, Essam Omar, and Ahmed Bahaa.
- Nosferatu, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Bill Skarsgård.
- Al Dashash, starring Khaled El-Sawy, Mohamed Saad, Bassem Samra, Nesreen Tafesh, and Nesrine Amin.
Sett El-Hosn - dance performance

Sett El-Hosn is one of the latest productions by the Forsan El Sharq (The Knights of the Orient) Heritage Company.
Forsan El Sharq was established in 2009 at the initiative of the former minister of culture, Farouk Hosni. It aims to showcase Egypt’s cultural heritage through music and dance.
Forsan Al Sharq's first artistic director was Esmat Yehia, followed by Aouni and numerous other directors and choreographers.

Abu Shaar Brothers - music

Abu Shaar Brothers (El Ekhwa Abu Shaar) was formed in the 1980s, with new generations entering the ensemble later.
They are internationally renowned Syrian performers whose music and lyrics focus on a religious repertoire, including songs praising Prophet Muhammad.
The Abu Shaar brothers currently reside in Egypt, holding many concerts.
Paranoid Eyes - music

Paranoid Eyes is an Egyptian progressive rock band passionate about covering the tunes of Pink Floyd and the solo projects released by the legendary David Gilmour and Roger Waters.
The band members include Wissam Sultan (lead guitar and vocals), Illia Yurchenko (drums), Yehya Radwan (bass guitar), and Abdalla Nasser (keyboards and background sound effects).
Memo - theatre
Friday 3 and 7-10 January, 9pm
Grand Nile Tower, Cairo
Memo was directed by Hesham Atwa and written by Diaa Mohamed.
The play revolves around Masoud — a marginalized community member who decides to prove himself unconventionally.
Ahmed Helmy is the eponymous hero of the play, whose cast includes stars like Hannah El-Zahed, Ahmed Rizk, Hamdi El-Marghani, Mohamed Radwan, Rahma Ahmed, and Nour Ehab.

100 Years of Singing - music
Sunday, 5 January, 8pm
Cairo Opera House, Open Air Theatre, Zamalek, Cairo
It is a part of the series dubbed 100 Years of Singing Concert; this time, the evening will honour Ali El-Haggar and his career decades.
The singers to take the stage include Anoushka, Ahmed Ali El-Haggar, and Hisham Abbas.
El-Haggar has been one of the best-known singers in Egypt and the Arab world over the past four decades.
His songs feature lyrics drawn from the poetry of Salah Jahin, Abdel-Rahman El-Abnoudy, and Sayed Hegab. They are accompanied by music by the country's most renowned composers, such as Baligh Hamdy, Sayed Mekkawy, and Omar Khairat.
Jazz Mosaic with Mohamed Sharara - music

Cairo Opera House, Small Hall, Zamalek, Cairo
Mohamed Sharara is a violinist, composer, and conductor from a renowned family of musicians.
Besides his long history of performing with classical orchestras, Sharara also explores other music genres, including jazz.
According to the event’s promotional material, his upcoming concert will be “packed with amazing vibes and unforgettable moments.”
Sharara will offer his unique fusion between Arabic music canons and the language of jazz.

May Abd El-Aziz - music
Tuesday, 7 January, 8pm
Room Art Space & Café, Spot Mall, New Cairo
The concert is dubbed “A Night for Peace,” the singer’s life motto.
Abd El-Aziz believes in spreading peace, love, respect, understanding, and tolerance through heartfelt music and good education.
The singer writes and composes her own music, believing it can truly reach and touch people, eliminate hate, and spread love and unity.
