This figure does not include 11.09 million Egyptians residing abroad in 2023 per CAPMAS.
On 1 January 2024, Egypt’s population registered 105.8 million, up from 104.4 million in 2022 and 102.8 million in 2021.
Despite this growth in population in absolute figures, the country's population growth rate has continued to drop in the last decade, catapulted by a persistent fall in birth rates.
A 2022 CAPMAS report found that the fertility rate in the country declined by 20 percent between 2014 and 2021, dropping from 3.5 to 2.8 newborns per mother.
In the five-year period from 2019-2024, birth rates dropped from 3.5 to 2.85 newborns per mother, according to government figures.
CAPMAS attributed this drop to increased usage of birth control and other family planning methods.
