Egyptian thinker Nader Fergany passes away at 80

Renowned Egyptian thinker Dr. Nader Fergany passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80.

Dr. Fergany served as a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University and an expert at the United Nations.

He is widely celebrated for leading the preparation of the Arab Human Development Report of 2002, a groundbreaking study that received international acclaim and marked the beginning of a series of reports addressing development issues in the Arab world.  

Dr. Fergany's contributions earned him the Prince Claus Award from the Netherlands.

His notable publications include The Role of Egyptian Labour in the Construction Sector in Kuwait, Differentials in Labour Migration, and Monitoring the Condition of the Poor in the Third World.

Dr. Fergany previously contributed opinion pieces to Ahram Online, which reflected his deep concern for the social and economic progress of his nation and the Arab region.
