The assembly was set to address the syndicate’s stance on the Medical Responsibility and Patient Protection draft law currently under discussion in the Egyptian House of Representatives.

The meeting’s postponement for a month sparked controversy among doctors, with many criticizing the syndicate’s leadership.

The syndicate justified the delay, highlighting its continued cooperation with the parliament to secure the doctors' full, rightful demands.

It further noted that a consensus was reached to amend specific draft law provisions, including removing prison sentences for professional errors.

"A clear definition of medical error was also added, distinguishing it from severe medical errors," the syndicate stated early Thursday.

However, the decision led to the resignation of five council members.

According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Ibrahim El-Zayat, Ahmed El-Sayed, Tarek Mansour, Ahmed Ali, and Ahmed El-Hawary resigned,  voicing strong objections to the postponement.

The syndicate’s council consists of the head and 24 elected members representing regions nationwide.

A source within the syndicate told Al-Masry Al-Youm that a sharp disagreement erupted among members when the postponement decision was made.

The council was not consulted before the announcement, with the postponement notice issued via the syndicate’s official social media.

In response, the syndicate’s council issued a statement on its official Facebook page, reaffirming its commitment to the postponement and promising progress in addressing the necessary changes in the law.

On 23 December, Egypt’s Senate approved the Medical Responsibility and Patient Protection draft law.
