The Egyptian aid shipment, provided by the Egyptian Red Crescent to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, was transported aboard an EgyptAir civilian cargo plane and received by the chargé d'affaires of the Egyptian embassy in Damascus.

The Egyptian aid comes less than 48 hours after the first phone call between the Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and his new Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shaibani.
During the call, FM Abdelatty reaffirmed to al-Shaibani Egypt's full support for the Syrian people and their legitimate aspirations.
Various regional and global powers have started delivering aid to Syria following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government in early December.
On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia launched a humanitarian air bridge to Syria, delivering food and medical supplies.
Others, including the European Union, have also announced new aid for Syria, where the United Nations said seven out of 10 people need urgent relief.

Syria has been devastated by 13 years of civil war and Western sanctions against Al-Assad's government.
The civil war has killed more than 500,000 people, displaced millions, and rendered half of the country's hospitals out of service.
Egypt has opened its doors to hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees since 2011, ensuring their access to essential educational and health services in the country.
