The paid leave will apply to workers in ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public-sector companies, private-sector entities, and public business-sector firms.

The decision excludes examinations, which will proceed as scheduled by the relevant authorities.

Madbouly extended his heartfelt felicitations to all Coptic citizens celebrating Christmas.

Designated a national holiday in 2002, Coptic Orthodox Egyptians, who comprise 90 percent of the country’s Christian population, celebrate Christmas on 7 January, according to the Julian Calendar.

Meanwhile, other Egyptian Christian denominations, such as Catholics and Evangelicals, celebrate Christmas on 25 December, following the Gregorian Calendar.
