Egypt's revenues from the Suez Canal fell by over 60 percent in 2024 compared to 2023 due to Red Sea tensions, resulting in a loss of nearly $7 billion, according to the Egyptian presidency.
Abdelatty and Al-Said's discussion came during a meeting in the Omani capital, Muscat, as part of the Egyptian FM's official visit to continue coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides emphasized the importance of maritime safety and freedom of international trade, highlighting their direct impact on the security of littoral countries.
During the meeting, Abdelatty underscored the importance of cooperation to strengthen Arab security, especially amid unprecedented turmoil in the Middle East on multiple fronts.
He also stressed Egypt's commitment to coordination and consultation with Oman to establish regional security and stability.
Meeting Omani FM
During his visit, Abdelatty also met with his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, to discuss regional issues of mutual interest.
Both foreign ministers addressed the Palestinian cause and the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, highlighting Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and secure a ceasefire and captives release.
The meeting also discussed developments in Syria, Libya, Lebanon, and the Yemeni crisis, focusing on efforts to achieve a comprehensive political solution.
Furthermore, the top diplomats discussed the latest developments in the Horn of Africa, including Sudan and Somalia.
The Egyptian foreign ministry said that the meeting reflected a shared vision between both ministers regarding the regional challenges and ways to address them.
They also agreed to support each other’s candidacies in regional and international forums.
Egypt-Oman ties
Abdelatty also met with Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion Qais Mohammed Al Yousef to discuss enhancing economic and trade cooperation.
Additionally, the Egyptian foreign minister is scheduled to meet members of the Egyptian community in Oman, participate in the Egyptian-Omani Business Forum, and attend the Christmas celebration at the Egyptian Orthodox Church in Muscat.
