The statement explained that the government authorized over 3.9 million state-funded medical procedures in 2024, including treatment for blood diseases and tumours, in addition to surgeries and gynaecological procedures.
According to Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, 7,454 patients accessed medical care via online application procedures without needing to visit the offices of the General Directorate for Specialized Medical Councils (SMC), which authorizes requests for state funding of treatment.
Dr Abdel-Ghaffar explained that those approved for state funding accessed medical services at the ministry or ministry-affiliated hospitals, university hospitals, and private and charity hospitals.
Mohamed Zidan, the SMC director, noted that patients seeking state funding must be uninsured and could visit the nearest government hospital to assess their medical needs while awaiting authorization for state funding.
