FM Abdelaty and Le Drian's discussions come in a phone call ahead of the upcoming Lebanese Parliament session to elect a new president on 9 January, marking the first attempt to fill the post in nearly 19 months.

Lebanon has endured a presidential vacuum since the resignation of President Michel Oun in late 2022.

Egypt’s top diplomat also emphasized the importance of empowering Lebanese national institutions, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

On Saturday, the Egyptian foreign minister emphasized in a call to his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib that Cairo supports all intensive efforts involving all national stakeholders to reach a consensus for electing a new president for Lebanon.
