Tarek El Sheikh and Abdelbaset Hamouda - music

Cairo Jazz Club 610, El-Guezira Plaza, Sheikh Zayed

Tarek El Sheikh and Abdelbaset Hamouda, two stars of Mahraganat music, will perform in an evening dubbed Shaabi Night.

The event will also feature DJ Saddam.

Sohbet Al-Semsemiya - music
Wednesday 8 January, 8pm
Rawabet Art Space, 5 Hussein Basha Al Meamari, Downtown Cairo

The Sohbet Al-Semsemiya troupe features the art of Semsemiya, dance, and musical heritage. 

The Semsemiya is a musical instrument popular in the Suez Canal cities of Suez, Ismailia, and Port Said.

Mazaher ensemble (Zar) - music
Wednesday 8 January, two concerts: 9:45pm and 11pm
Egyptian Center For Culture & Arts - Makan, 1 Saad Zaghloul Str, Cairo

Mazaher is an ensemble in which women play a leading role.

The musicians of Mazaher, Um Sameh, Um Hassan and Nour El-Sabah are among the last remaining Zar practitioners in Egypt.

The music is inspired by the three musical styles of the Zar tradition practised in Egypt.

Mood of Oud - music
Friday 10 January, 8pm
Room Art Space & Café, 10 Etehad Al Mohamin Street, Garden City

Mood of Oud is a project by Michael Onsi inviting audiences to his own compositions and arrangements. 

Composer and oud player Onsi studied oud at Cairo’s Beit El-Oud, founded by Shamma, graduating with excellence in late 2017.

He performed a series of concerts and tours with different troupes, many led by Shamma.

Onsy began composing his own music until his trajectory converged on Mood of Oud.

Blumen Ensemble - music
Friday 10 January, 8pm
Cairo Opera House, Small Hall, Zamalek, Cairo

The Blumen ensemble consists of Doa Saber (flute), Yasmine Samy (violin), Suzan Saber (viola), and Mohamed Ahmed (cello).

The ensemble mainly performs music from the Western classical repertoire and specials for occasions such as Christmas or New Year.

Ramy Sabry - music

Open Air Mall, Madinaty

Sabry rose to fame in the mid-2000s and has since released eight albums and one EP.

His songs garner millions of views amid continued creative commitments in Egypt and the Arab region.

Sabry holds many concerts in the Arab Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.



Omar Khairat - music
Friday 10 and Saturday 11 January, 8pm
Great Hall, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria

Born in 1947, the multi-award-winning Khairat is one of the top musicians of the Arab World, with hundreds of memorable compositions in his repertoire.

Throughout his long and successful career, he has written scores for numerous films and television series, including The Sixth Day (1984), The Terrorist (1993), Mafia (2002), Girl’s Love (2003), The Embassy in the Building (2005) and Deer’s Blood (2006).

Khairat's concerts in Egypt and across the Arab world are always sold out.

Fans love Heya Di El-Hayah, Fi Hawid El Leil, Arabian Rhapsody, Fiha Haga Helwa, Eadam Mayet, El-Khawaga Abdel-Kader, Giran El-Hana, Saber, Arfa, Qadeyet Am Ahmed, Khali Balak Men Aklak and other classic hits of time-honoured TV and film themes.

The Children Behind Zalaga - film

The 2023 documentary, directed by Karim Ali, follows young jockeys chosen to compete in the Zalaga race—the oldest camel race in South Sinai.

The Children Behind Zalaga offers an intimate look at the child camel racer, highlighting the centuries-old Bedouin tradition that fuels their dreams of success.

From wealthy investors to skilled trainers and young jockeys who sacrifice their education for financial support, witness the highs and lows of the camel racing industry through their eyes.

Pinocchio ballet
Monday 13 January 8pm
Tuesday 14 January, 2pm and 8pm
Cairo Opera House, Main Hall, Zamalek, Cairo

The famed story of Pinocchio will come to the Cairo Opera House’s stage, which features choreography by Sebastiano Coppa, an Italian dancer and former soloist of the La Scala Company.

Coppa also worked with composer Stefano Salvatori to create a music landscape relying on excerpts from Nino Rota and Giuseppe Verdi. 

The same evening, chosen scenes from The Nutcracker ballet will also be presented in the show's second part.
