The drilling was carried out using the Valaris DS-12 drillship.
The statement added that the step was part of the third phase of BP's West Nile Delta (WND) project.
The WND project is a significant gas development initiative off the coast of Alexandria, covering fields in the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater concessions.
The project is being developed in three phases. The first phase included drilling nine production wells, and the second phase included eight production wells.
According to the ministry's statement, gas production from the new wells is expected to begin in February 2025.
After completing drilling in the Raven Field, the drillship relocated to the King area, also in the Mediterranean, for further exploratory drilling, read the statement.
BP is one of the largest foreign investors in Egypt. Over the past 60 years, BP has invested more than $35 billion in Egypt, becoming a central pillar of the country's energy industry, according to the company's website.
In February last year, UAE's Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and BP agreed to form a joint venture to develop gas assets in Egypt.
In addition, BP produces around 60 percent of Egypt's gas through a joint venture with other partners in the East Nile Delta and through its operated WND gas development.
In 2023, BP revealed its plan to invest $3.5 billion in gas exploration in Egypt over three years.
Also, in 2023, former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla stated that the government planned to dig 35 new exploratory natural gas wells in the Mediterranean and the Nile Delta by 2025 with $1.8 billion in investments.
