In a heartfelt letter addressed to the "Ahly people," Tau reflected on his time with the Cairo-based team, during which he contributed to 11 major titles, including two CAF Champions League trophies in 2023 and 2024. “From day one, I was here to make history, and together we did,” Tau wrote in a message shared on social media.
Tau joined Ahly from Brighton in 2021, winning 11 titles including two Champions League trophies. Despite injuries, he made 126 appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 14 assists. He previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Brighton, Union SG, and Club Brugge.
Ahly have yet to announce a replacement for Tau, who is reportedly exploring new opportunities. The club expressed gratitude for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors.
