Wednesday 15 January brings several new films to movie theatres across Egypt:

Mazaher ensemble (Zar) - music
Wednesday 15 January, two concerts: 9:45pm and 11pm
Egyptian Centre for Culture & Arts - Makan, 1 Saad Zaghloul St., Cairo

Mazaher is an ensemble in which women play a leading role.

The musicians of Mazaher, Um Sameh, Um Hassan, and Nour El-Sabah, are among the last remaining Zar practitioners in Egypt. The music is inspired by the three different musical styles of the Zar tradition practised in Egypt.

Spanish & Latin - music/dance
Thursday 16 January, 8pm
Cairo Opera House, Small Hall, Zamalek, Cairo

The evening will feature the Egyptian singer and dancer Mona Burkhardt.

The Alexandria-born artist sings in French, English, Spanish, and Arabic and has mastered Spanish and Latin dancing. 

Burkhardt founded the Enchanting Melodies Orchestra in 2014, aiming to spread Spanish classical music due to its closeness to oriental music.

On Cherche l'Amour - theatre 
Friday 17 January and Saturday 18 January, 8pm
Rawabet Art Space, 5 Hussein Basha Al Meamari, Downtown Cairo

On Cherche l'Amour (Looking for Love) is a theatre play directed by Nanda Mohammad, who also plays the protagonist's role. The play's text is based on the artist's own writings and fused with works by poets like Riyad Al-Saleh Al Hussein (Syria), Amira Abul Husn (Syria), and Mohamed Azoz (Sudan).

The play is a journey to rediscover the essence of love, presented through the power of theatre, voice, and music.

Mohamed Helmy - stand-up comedy
Friday 17 January and Saturday 18 January, 8pm

The Egyptian stand-up comedian Mohamed Helmy is back in Cairo with his second comedy special, Globally Local, after touring Europe during the last months of 2024.

The comedian began his career in 2016, gaining fame on social media platforms, with one million followers on his Instagram account and over two million on TikTok.

Amr Selim - music
Friday 17 January, 8pm

Renowned pianist Amr Selim is known for performing classical music, including Arabic and Western pieces.

Arab Heritage Music Ensemble - music
Friday 17 January, 8pm
Cairo Opera House, Main Hall, Zamalek, Cairo

The evening will feature Egyptian singer Mohamed Tharwat.

Widely known for many memorized patriotic, romantic, Islamic, and kids’ songs, Tharwat rose to fame in the 70s.

Conducted by maestro Mohamed El-Mougi, the ensemble will feature singers Reem Hamdi, Hanan El-Kholy, Hanan Essam, Ahmed Mohsen, Noha Hafez, and Yasser Soliman.

Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music - music
Sunday 19 January, 8pm
Arabic Music Institute, 22 Ramsis Street, Downtown Cairo

The ensemble will perform her songs in memory of the prominent 20th-century Egyptian singer Umm Kulthoum.

Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music was founded in 1967 by Maestro Abdel Halim Nowera. The ensemble's mission is to revive the authentic musical heritage, presenting various traditional vocal and musical forms.

Conducted by maestro Salah Ghobashy, the evening will feature solo singers Rehab Omar and Ghada Adam.

Folklorita - music
Saturday 18 January, 5pm
MASQ - Multicultural and Artistic Space at Sultan Qaitbey

Folklorita presents covers of songs from Egyptian heritage. 

The group, consisting of 17 performers, relies mainly on voices and percussion instruments like tabla, doholla, and daff, in addition to other musicians. 

Folklorita’s first concert was in March 2024, and ever since, the group has performed across many venues in Egypt.

Saad El-Oud - music
Wednesday 22 January, 8pm
Boom Room, Open Air Mall, Madinaty, Cairo

Oud player Saad El-Oud plays songs representing authentic Egyptian heritage while interacting with the audience.

El-Oud is a frequent performer across the Gulf countries and an active musician, moving across renowned venues and small spaces hosting up-and-coming independent bands.
