This came during a phone call with Chad’s President Mahamat Idriss Déby, where Cairo reaffirmed its solidarity with the country during this critical period.
According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi praised Déby’s leadership in Chad’s efforts to combat and defeat terrorist groups, stressing Egypt’s continued backing for the country in combating extremist ideologies.
On Wednesday, a gunmen attack on the presidential office in Chad resulted in 19 deaths, including 18 attackers and one security officer, according to the Chadian government.
AFP reported that the attackers were likely members of the Boko Haram group, while Reuters suggested it might have been an "attempted terrorist attack."
Strong ties
During their call, President El-Sisi congratulated his Chadian counterpart on the successful legislative elections, in which his party secured a majority in Chad’s National Assembly.
For his part, Déby conveyed his deep gratitude for Egypt’s ongoing support of his country’s security and stability.
Déby also highlighted the strong and enduring relationship between the two nations and emphasized Chad’s intention to further develop its cooperation with Egypt in various sectors.
In late December, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty visited N'Djamena, delivering a message from El-Sisi to the Chadian president.
During his visit, Abdelatty also discussed with Déby the need for intensified consultations due to the impact of the Sudanese crisis on Egypt and Chad and reviewed efforts to resolve the conflict.
