According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to continued consultations with Kaag.
This includes ensuring the swift, secure, and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as mandated by UN Security Council Resolution 2720.
He highlighted the critical need to address the worsening humanitarian disaster in the region, exacerbated by winter conditions and the continued risks of epidemics and famine.
The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast stance on the necessity of reaching a ceasefire agreement, guaranteeing safe and sustained access to humanitarian aid through all border crossings, and returning the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities in Gaza.
Abdelatty called on Israel to fulfil its obligations as an occupying power by addressing the catastrophic humanitarian situation and withdrawing from the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing to facilitate the flow of aid.
He also stressed the vital role of UNRWA in continuing its indispensable operations.
The minister also underscored the importance of implementing the financial commitments made during the Cairo Ministerial Conference to bolster humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
He also welcomed the UN official’s insights and evaluation of the latest developments concerning the humanitarian crisis in the strip.
